Vannam Vekkan is an ancient healing practice that has been used in India, Sri Lanka and other parts of South Asia for centuries. It is based on the belief that health and well-being can be achieved by using a combination of physical exercises, diet modifications, meditation and energy work.
The word “vannam” means “sickness”, while “vekkan” means “to cure”. This practice seeks to treat both physical ailments as well as psychological or emotional distress through balancing the body’s energies. The physical exercises involve stretching, breathing techniques, acupuncture points, mudras (hand gestures), and massage techniques.
Diet modifications include eating foods that are believed to have healing properties such as garlic and ginger. Meditations may focus on cultivating awareness of one’s inner strength or channeling universal energy into the body.
