Our idea is that we will cook this Cauli “Fish” & Chips recipe tomorrow (Saturday 28 March) afternoon and invite you to do the same. We will share step by step photos and videos on my instagram story, perhaps with some help from the kids if they play along. I’ll post a question box on one of the stories where we can answer your questions about the recipe and also chat about high and low. And if you tag us in your cooking photos, we will share them (maybe we could also post them on here later?). The thesis is that we will all feel a little more connected knowing that we are sharing the same dinner this weekend. Is it a corny idea? Fun?! Let us know what you think in a comment. Or if you have any questions that we should answer tomorrow. We don’t know exactly how and if this will work. Worst case we will be the only ones cooking this tomorrow. But then at least we have made dinner 🙂
It would be easier to cook it as an instagram live broadcast but I honestly find that a little too scary. And I can’t even imagine all the bloopers that could happen during a one hour broadcast with three kids in the kitchen (“daddy, I need to go to the bathroom” “daddy, Noah is drawing on the floor again” “daddy, I squeezed lemon into my eye!” “daddy, look at meeeee”).
Since we are all in different time zones it’s not going to be a perfectly synchronized dinner, but we will save it in my instagram highlight so you can join in at any time.
We decided on this Cauli “Fish” and Chips recipe from one of our books. It is a really good family recipe that we know is loved by many but perhaps not cooked often enough because, in all honesty, it is a liiiittle bit fiddly. You need to chop, grate, slice, fry, shape, bake and stir. So we have simplified the recipe a little bit, removed a few ingredients and made the method easier. It is a comforting meal, it is easy to adapt to what you have at home, and don’t have any weird flavors (good with kids).
The original recipe is from our book Green Kitchen at Home. Even though we share it here, we hope that you still consider supporting our work and our books. It is much appreciated in times like these.
Regardless if you cook this with us tomorrow or save it for another day, we hope you are going to love it as much as we do. We have connected with so many of you on this site and it is a good example that regardless if you are home alone or with your family, in an apartment in Hong Kong, a house in Perth, New York or Stockholm we can all connect around good food here. And we are forever grateful for your participation in that.
See you tomorrow! Bring your own wine 😉
Stay safe.
